Every beer yeast strain has a set of characteristics that lend to the flavor profile of the beer it is being used to create. There are temperature ranges that are ideal for specific strains in order to avoid off-flavors and to obtain optimal performance. The calculator above is designed to present the brewer with information about some of the more popular strains available to the home brewing community. You can even use the information to approximate what the final alcohol content of a beer might be. Knowing your yeast and its performance and flavor characteristics is a very important aspect of beer recipe formulation and can help a home brewer create the best possible end product.
